By Choice

Its ironical, tyrannical,
Getting a kick out of misery,
Finding in it,
An innate beauty,

Its just on whims,
And preconceived notions,
Of how rotten the world is,
How terrible, man is.

Don't be naive now,
That's what they say to me,
Why I choose melancholy,
I believe is a mystery.

Alas, I'm a poser,
With the wits of a loser,
Who clings to nothings,
And cry for somethings.

Spare me, I'd say,
And smirk you would,
Thinking you've salvaged,
Your witty mood.

Latent Urgency

I was sure it's 2001,
I blinked and I'm the only one,
How did I start to lose time?
I must've committed a crime.

Days, Months and Years,
They're not merely figures,
What was triumphant then,
Is never glorious again.

I shudder to think of it,
My failing memory dying,
As if falling into a pit,
Where there's only crying.

Perhaps if I was awakened,
More often than I was dreaming,
My latent urgency forsaken,
I'd meet my petty reckoning.

Though merciless Time ever was,
I should've noticed it,
How adrift I really was,
Or perhaps merely stupid.

Now I'm just wallowing,
Seeking my lost moments,
Vigilant of any omens,
Signs of my tardy 'awakening'.

Innocent Delirium

I'm appalled,
At the beauty and tragedy,
Of a great many things,
Unspoken and silenced.

Slipping from my consciousness,
There are, a great many things,
I can barely begin to understand,
Hidden and restricted.

The crying madman in the attic,
The sentimental fool in the rain,
The rational hermit in the study,
The hapless beggar in the drain.

I cannot comprehend them,
The irrevocable oaths,
Of those who promised lies,
And beat their chests like primates.

These are the litter of society,
The well-bred innards of class,
I'm but one who observes,
And agonizes their pitiful sweetness.

As rotten as wine,
As broken as a twig,
Like stepping into a puddle,
Where the cold water clings.

Can you not see their souls?
Through those blank windows,
Twins set in their masks,
The eyes of a liar.

Apalled, I am,
At this innocent delirium,
Sprung from wicked intentions,
Lost in the river of thoughts.

Worlds Apart

WORLDS APART

These words in my eyes,
Can you hear them whisper?

These dreams I clung with my fingerstips,
Can you hear them cry?

These thoughts I imprison in my heart,
Can you feel them beat?

These feelings I cup in my palms,
Can you see them spilling?

You can't hear the whispers,
You can hear the cries,
You can't feel the beat,
You can't see them spill.

Because we're different,
You and I,
Worlds apart,
It tears us apart.

CARPE DIEM

Last night, I had the pleasure of watching a 1989 film titled DEAD POETS SOCIETY. Truly an awe-inspiring masterpiece. This multiple award winning film is set in 1959 at a conservative and aristocratic boys prep school, it tells the story of an English teacher, John Keating (Robin Williams) who inspires his students to change their lives of conformity through his teaching of poetry and literature. This film is a modern interpretation of the transcendentalist movement.

I confess, I watched the movie simply because I knew that Robert Sean Leonard (a.k.a Wilson of HOUSE MD) is in it. Robert Sean Leonard plays one of John Keating's students, Neil Perry. I did not expect to be moved and inspired by the themes presented in the DEAD POETS SOCIETY. I love the extensive contradictions between romanticism and realism throughout the film. To put it simply, I believe that the concept of 'Carpe diem' which is a latin term meaning 'Seize the Day' that John Keating (Robin Williams) taught his class, if exercised correctly is actually a positive notion.

I shall say no more. To give away plot lines of this wonderful film should be a crime ;) Dear, reader, if you haven't watch DEAD POETS SOCIETY , please do. You can find it on YouTube here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1vK9FDLaqHg or you can download the whole movie with Ares.

Before I end this I would like to post a poem that I penned immediately after watching the film. Believe me, the film is truly, very inspiring indeed.

I seek what most men seek,
A means of living to sustain life,
A reason to live, for being alive,
For nought is triumphant without motivation.

This fleeting journey is flashing past,
Some go about it timidly, some boldly,
I've chosen what I deemed practical,
To be rid off off poverty, to live righteously.

My beliefs in tune with my aspirations,
It has always been what I dreamt of achieving,
A balance between abstaining and succumbing to temptations,
To believe in romanticism yet be grounded by religion.

I've chosen what I deemed essential,
A career driven not by passion,
But a career to drive my passion,
The ultimate tool for my future endeavours.

I wish to reach out to the world,
To assist in charitable acts that glorify mankind,
To achieve Immortality through philantropy,
To taste the satisfactions of an unsung hero.

Thus I shall not wait around,
With my own two hands, I shall and I will,
'Sieze the day' as they flit past,
This is my testimonial to the world.

Carpe diem!
